distracted driving

This article shows some of what I think is a problem in our society.

But you may be surprised to learn that I do NOT think the solution is by passing laws making it illegal to talk on a cell phone or send texts while driving.  Cell phones and texting are definitely distractions- but so is eating, dealing with kids, fiddling with the controls, or any of a number of other things.  I’ve seen women putting on makeup while driving, and I’ve even heard of people reading a book or checking their email while driving.  If you truly wanted to change things, you’d have to make ALL of those things illegal- and then where does it stop?  It doesn’t, and we’d become a heartbeat away from communism.
